When Ingvill asked me to write an introduction about myself for Live A Life in Motion, my path led me to the creation of the following vignettes, all of which share with you the depths of me and all that I enjoy about life.

In an age where we seem to be moving further away from spoken interaction (face-to-face, phone calls and Skype) and closer to communication in the form of written medium (text messages, social media and e-mail), I find myself longing for and reverting to the traditional means of talking with family, friends, acquaintances and total strangers. I feel that I am not alone in this sense and feel as though there are many others secretly craving the same.

Unfortunately, spoken communication, generally speaking, takes more of our energy and focus, is more inconvenient and more immediate than the written word. I feel this, often times, leaves many who want to revert back to traditional communication stuck between a rock and a hard place, paralyzed in the convenience of text message conversations that take much too long and leave us feeling misunderstood due to lack of intimation found only through voice. In turn, we feel even more pressed for time and, in the end, wishing that we had called (again – this is not the first time) instead of using so much of our precious time pressing violently on a glass screen in an effort to catch up in the time rat race.

Regrettably for me, I strive to be a written word perfectionist and, by and large, believe myself to be much too imprecise for my liking in my spoken language. It’s a Catch-22, really.

Fortunately, I LOVE people, and, more precisely, meeting new strangers and learning from them, especially when I am able to reach out and give a handshake, share an embrace after a heartfelt conversation or a high-five when an ingenious moment strikes. Our eyes truly are the gateway to our souls… they show the depths of our sadness, the intensity of our brightness and everything in between. A twitch of the eye, nose, ear or mouth can have one of a thousand meanings. Our posture expresses equally so. When coupled with the tone of our voice, they share a depth of knowledge that no written word, regardless of the quality of the person penning it, can articulate.

Observing people doing even the seemingly most mundane routine fascinates me endlessly. Each of us may do the simplest activity an infinite amount of ways. Each movement comprised of our life’s experiences.

People are my life’s passion. Each and every one of us is beautifully unique and, truly, God’s creation. How fantastic is that?!

There are innumerable aspects to life. People not withstanding, learning from and following our natural curiosity ranks highly on my list of things that are superbly fascinating. Ever-changing, ever-growing and always moving, like an interesting conversation, our search for understanding often leads us to a place from where we no longer know started.
The mind is a vast world with a breath that is, most assuredly, breathtaking. Astounding, isn’t it, the amount of knowledge we can learn (and grasp), in a short period of time, to the point to which we actively can change our perspective on a topic or theme? Hyperlinked words, phrases, concepts and more, we can, truly, learn just about anything we set our minds to… especially when passion is our main driver.
Passion. The idea in life that motivates us to push forward, grow and learn. It can be a constant or whimsical. It isn’t up to us; it is solely dependent upon whatever (or wherever) our natural curiosity takes us.

Music, of every genre, has the ability to be the most beautiful or vile form of expression… and anything in between. I can’t imagine live without it. And being surrounded by others sharing their own unique interpretation of music live… to me, almost no other atmosphere is comparable.

… That is, with the exception of being surrounded by and walking through nature. The splendor and glory of pristine streams, rivers, lakes, mountains, glaciers, plains and more… to me, this is God’s house. Solace. Solitude. Beauty. Embraced by all of God’s creation. This is my place of sanctity.

My joy for travel is based on knowing that I am following or, likely, will encounter everything above that I am passionate about. Most of all, my love for travel is derived from knowing that I will encounter the constant among us – regardless of ethnicity, complexion or background – and the reason for all of us being on earth. Love.

It is so simple, yet, simultaneously, so complex. It encompasses all things meaningful. It is the only path worth seeking.
